Formula 1 redbull DRS rearwing

F1 has had its controversies and one of them that keeps coming back is the DRS. Is it really that bad or is it a great thing to have? I believe that for now it is a great solution to an issue that is still relevant and we should not just throw away the DRS because we think it is unfair.

I am a big fan of Formula 1 and I watch every race starting with the free practice on Friday followed by the free practice and qualification on Saturday. Add to that the F1Cafe program on Friday evening and then the race on Sunday.

Lately, I have noticed that the talk about ditching the DRS system completely has popped up more and more in different media. For what it’s worth I think that that is a pretty sad development. My opinion will look like it will talk down on race hero’s like Villeneuve, who are openly against DRS but I do think there is a good reason to keep it.

Take a look at the video below and thean read on.

It was a really dumb decision to enhance the effects of the DRS-System. DRS on its own is stupid and the effects it has on this season are a disgrace for the sport. Drivers are overtaking with a difference of more than 30kmh, that has nothing to do with racing.

Jacques Villeneuve

Though I don’t really agree with him at most of the points I do think that DRS should eventually be taken out of the picture. I would even go as far as to take it a bunch of steps further.

Leveling the playing field

Why don’t we give all the drivers 1 setup for the engine they can use from the start of qualifying? Let them select 1 setting and that’s it. No party mode anymore just doing the best you can with 1 setup.
This would hopefully make it better for the midfield teams and harder for the top 6.

I would say that they could even stop producing engines alltogether and do it like the Formula 2 is doing. Just race in the same cars and the only thing they can change in my opinion should be the aerodynamics.

That would really make things interesting, at least that’s what I think.
What do you guys think? Should things change? should we stand with Villeneuve? Let me know in the comments.
